Much of what has happened to the world over the past couple of years was anticipated by classic works of science fiction. Perhaps most apposite is Cyril M. Kornbluth’s “The Marching Morons,” which was published in 1951. This novella envisions a future in which the vast majority of humans are of very low intelligence, with an extremely limited understanding of the reality in which they live.
We could be seeing what Geert Vanden Bossche has been worried about, a type of immune exhaustion by constantly jabbing oneself and making themselves more susceptible to disease. Healthy people need to have faith in their wonderful immune systems and stop succumbing to fear mongering and coercion by the Morons.
We have a corrupt State using pseudo science to make money and maintain power as it is clearly explained in Anatomy of the state. Then yes we have morons following the corrupt state.
From personal experience, vaccines have only meant people getting covid three or four times. My husband and son are constantly covering at work for these people.
I was off Twitter for a year. I jumped back on mainly for sports. The Covid Cartel and Covid Grifters are still saying the exact same things from 18-24 months ago. They only repeat what the alliance media outlets dictates. Moron's yes but its extremely creepy how far gone these people are now.
Another good sci-fi read is The Machine Stops, by E.M. Forster, published in 1909. It's a short story about a world where people live remote lives. It doesn't include masks, but this line fits that: "The Machine did not transmit nuances of expression. It only gave a general idea of people--an idea that was good enough for all practical purposes, Vashti thought."
I've started reading it. This is a resonant excerpt:
The Polar President offered to resign in his favor, with certain temporary emergency powers that the Polar Congress would vote him if he thought them necessary. Barlow demanded the title of World Dictator, complete control of world finances, salary to be decided by himself, and the publicity campaign and historical writeup to begin at once.
"As for the emergency powers," he added, "they are neither to be temporary nor limited."

Morons…yep, that about sums it up.

Great book reference. Will need to check that out! And yes, I agree, they are mostly morons.
I have been thinking about that story for over 2 years.

Yes. Great story. I hadn’t thought of the connection to masks. Great quote.
I wonder if "The Marching Morons" is the basis for one of my favorite movies: Idiocracy (2006) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/
It's a must-watch as far as what you're talking about -- we are definitely headed in that direction!
Thank you for reminding me about Idiocracy and making the connection. It was definitely inspired by The Marching Morons. I’m sure Mike Judge read Kornbluth growing up, as I did. https://tonova.typepad.com/thesuddencurve/2007/07/the-marching-mo.html
